Napoli. Little Sara, three years old, was born with a brain malformation that caused her to have hemiparesis on the left side with a slight motor and cognitive delay. In September she started the “Minucci” nursery school and above all, together with other children her age, she began the process of socialization. The therapies are giving excellent results but she still cannot go to the bathroom alone and the school she attends cannot provide her with a female caretaker who can take care of her when she gets dirty. For this reason, they wear diapers, the little girl remains wet for hours until she is changed by her mother who, leaving work, has to rush to school. A problem, as reported by Il Mattino, that clashes with little Sara's right to have a physical assistant, while she has been assigned, after much insistence, a male caretaker who however refuses to perform the change so as not to run into any problems. Giulia Di Napoli is Sara's mother who fights to the point of exhaustion for her little girl's rights to be respected. "She got the support after a month. But the material assistant never arrived so I went to the Municipality (Vomero, Arenella) and after having put my foot down and asserted the child's rights, a janitor was sent to the school who immediately said that he would not change her diaper or even, if necessary, accompany her to the bathroom" - says the mother. The mother takes care of changing her, who is notified by the school when the emergency occurs, otherwise she remains dirty for hours.
In agreement with the school, Mrs. Di Napoli made an explicit request to Napoli Servizi for “A change with a caretaker who perhaps assists a boy, so that no problems would be created, but on the other side there was a categorical no. It seems to me a lack of willingness to dialogue that damages my daughter's development. It is her right and it is being denied to her”.
