A Following several robberies committed in the Piazza Garibaldi area, including in the immediate vicinity of the external perimeter of the Naples Central railway station, the men of the Campania Railway Police Department immediately paid attention to the phenomenon. By analyzing the stories provided by the victims, all non-EU foreigners, it was possible to draw up a profile of the robbers and outline their modus operandi. The gang operated at night, approaching the victims in a friendly manner. The criminals, pretending to want to chat, offered the unfortunate victims drinks containing soporific substances such as benzodiazepines, dangerous hypnotics that can cause serious damage to health and, if combined with alcohol or narcotics, even cause a coma.
When the victims felt the first signs of illness, struggling to keep their balance and losing lucidity, taking advantage of their reduced capacity for self-determination, they were taken to isolated places and robbed, only to be left fainting on the spot. To stop the gang, stakeout services were carried out with plainclothes personnel, surrounding the perimeter of the robbers' "hunting area" with uniformed patrols ready to intervene. The Operations Room of the Polfer Department was alerted in full synergy with the FSI Corporate Protection Control Room which, through video surveillance systems, constantly and carefully monitored the areas involved.
Through the images viewed in real time, around 2.50 am, the Polfer staff was alerted by the Compartmental Operations Room for the report of people in a suspicious attitude outside the Naples Central FS station.
Once on site, the operators identified three non-EU citizens and a short distance away from them another non-EU citizen who, with a staggering gait, in an evident state of confusion, reported feeling ill after having ingested a drink offered to him by the three men present. The victim added that after the first symptoms of illness, the group had taken him to an isolated place near the station where they had stolen 4 packs of loose tobacco and a 50 euro note. The four were then taken to these offices where, following a personal search, the four packs of tobacco were found on one of the robbers and the indicated sum was found on another robber, in the denominations specified by the victim. Viewing the images recorded by the video surveillance system allowed the events to be reconstructed precisely and highlighted unequivocally the role of the three attackers in committing the crime.
The victim of the robbery, after being examined at the “Loreto Mare” hospital in Naples, also being without identification documents, was subjected to photo-identification checks from which several aliases and numerous police records emerged against him; in particular, there was a note of tracing to be subjected to a restrictive measure with escort to the nearest penal institution. In fact, the man was subjected to the security measure of the Casa di Lavoro for two years and assigned to the Casa di Lavoro in Vasto from which he had escaped. Therefore, the Decree of unavailability issued in this regard on 20.11.2018 by the Pescara Surveillance Office was notified and executed. The three serial robbers, BR, an Algerian born in 1978, BBM, a Cameroonian born in 1986 and AS, a Tunisian born in 1978, all with repeated criminal records, were placed under arrest by the Judicial Police and taken to the Poggioreale prison.
