Naples. The Chiaia and Mergellina funiculars will suspend public service today, with the last ride at 2:10 PM. This is according to a statement from the National Association of Magistrates. Today, as was the case yesterday following the announcement of the extension of the central funicular's weekend operating hours, the service managers of the Chiaia and Mergellina funiculars have informed the National Association of Magistrates that they will be unable to work due to illness. These three managers are different from those who were ill yesterday. The company received the notification around 12 PM and immediately began working to find replacements. There are 15 service managers in total, but recalls to duty are, by contract, voluntary, and all those who were available stated they were unable to cover the afternoon shift. The unavailability of service managers has therefore prevented service to passengers for the second consecutive day. The company apologizes to its customers and is committed to addressing the causes of the sudden disruptions of the last few hours.
