Nicola Schiavone enters the trial against Nicola Cosentino and 20 other people involved in the investigation into the links between politics and the Casalesi clan. A dramatic turn of events during the appeal hearing for the investigation “The Prince and the (card) dancer” which sees the 21 defendants who have chosen the ordinary procedure on trial, including the former undersecretary of the Economy, sentenced in the first instance to 5 years of imprisonment.
The DDA public prosecutor has asked to hear the firstborn son of Casalesi boss Francesco Sandokan, who has been speaking to magistrates since July, at the next hearing, scheduled for February. The statements will be filed in the next few days and then the judges will evaluate the entry of the Schiavone scion into the appeal process. According to the prosecution, Cosentino, having been a political contact for the Casalesi clan, was interested in the construction of a shopping center, never built, wanted by the Camorra and was interested in a loan to Unicredit of 5 million euros to Nicola Di Caterino's Vian, the company that was supposed to build the center. The meeting for the disbursement of the funds, which in fact never materialized, is said to have taken place in Rome at the branch in via Bari on February 7, 2007. In the first instance, the judges inflicted 13 convictions and 8 acquittals. With Cosentino, Nicola Di Caterino was sentenced to 11 years, Gaetano Iorio to 9 years, Stefano Di Rauso to 9 years, Mauro La Rossa to 7 years, Cristoforo Zara to 5 years, Caterina Corvino to 4 years, Rossano Tirabassi to 4 years, Gennaro Abbruzzese to 4 years, Stefania Porcellini to 2 years and 8 months, Claudio Angeli to 2 years and 8 months, and Marco Galante to 2 years. The defense team includes, among others, lawyers Giuseppe Stellato, Stefano Montone and De Caro.
