The event, held in the Banca Stabiese Conference Hall, marks the culmination of the Stabia Teatro Festival, the theatrical and literary festival conceived and directed by Luca Nasuto in collaboration with the "Achille Basile - Le Ali della Lettura" Association, chaired by Maria Carmen Matarazzo, now in its sixth edition. The Drama Prize was awarded to an author of great European fame, as prolific as he is refined, such as Manlio Santanelli, who since the end of the 70s has given the history of theatre unforgettable texts such as Uscita di emergenza, Regina Madre, Bellavita Carolina, Il baciamano and continues to fascinate the public with the strength of a scenic writing nourished by a vast literary culture, expertly linked to paradox and the absurd, capable of illuminating with merciless irony the human frailties hidden under the appearance of normality. The winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award is set designer Bruno Garofalo, who, starting with his long association with Eduardo—for whom he created memorable sets such as Napoli milionaria, Le voci di dentro, Il sindaco del Rione Sanità, and Il monumento—has been the protagonist of an artistic career that has placed him among the leading exponents of Italian set design, thanks to collaborations with prestigious theaters including the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Venice Biennale, the Taormina Festival, the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, and the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto. The winners of the two categories were selected based on a vote by a jury chaired by Pasquale Sabbatino, an Italianist at the Federico II University and Director of the Master in Dramaturgy and Cinematography at the same university, and coordinated by Monica Citarella. Alongside Sabbatino, the precious work of the Honorary President, Giulio Baffi, theater critic of La Repubblica, together with Carlo de Nonno, musician from Ruccello, as well as representative of the family and custodian of its theatrical heritage; Matteo Palumbo, Italianist of the University Federico II; Stefano de Stefano, theater critic of Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno; Giuseppina Scognamiglio, professor of Italian Theater Literature of the University of Federico II; Armida Parisi, cultural editor of Roma; Francesco de Cristofaro, professor of Comparative Literature of the University Federico II. The Coordination of the Stabia Teatro Festival has awarded a special recognition for Emerging Drama to the young Carmine Borrino, actor and author, awarded for his unpublished text Il bene immobile, a dark-toned play but always in the spirit of Italian comedy, focused on the problem of real estate speculation. The Annibale Ruccello Prize for Poetry was instead awarded to the Spanish poet Juan Vicente Piqueras, designated by a jury chaired by Sergio Iagulli, head of the International Poetry House of Baronissi, by the poet and critic Giancarlo Cavallo, by the translator Raffaella Marzano and by Maria Carmen Matarazzo and Luca Nasuto themselves. An eclectic intellectual who lived between France, Italy, Greece and Algeria, Piqueras is the director of the Cervantes Institute in Algiers and has several collections to his credit, including Tentativas de un héroe derrotado, Castillos de Aquitania, La palabra cuando, La edad del agua, Adverbios de lugar, Atenas, Padre y Animales. A skilled translator, he edited, among other things, the Spanish edition of poets such as Tonino Guerra (Poesìa Completa) and Cesare Zavattini (Refugiarme en una palabra).
