QFour people with ties to the Camorra and the 'Ndrangheta have been arrested in the provinces of Rome, Varese and Viterbo, as part of Operation 'Ichnos', which began in September 2017 in Sardinia. Vincenzo Polito, a 47-year-old Roman, unemployed and detained in Rebibbia prison, linked to the 'Ndrangheta, and Ismail Rebeshi, 35, originally from Albania but resident in Viterbo, with ties to Albanian crime, are accused of criminal association for the purpose of drug trafficking. Massimo Leoni, 42, unemployed, originally from Castellanza in the province of Varese but resident in Mozzate in the province of Como, and Giuseppe Tinenzo, 40, artisan, originally from Torre Annunziata but resident in Gallarate, have been placed under house arrest. The latter two, according to the Carabinieri of the Carbonia company, are linked to Camorra clans. A fifth man, also with contacts with the Camorra, whose personal details were not provided and for whom a precautionary custody order was issued, has not yet been traced because he is abroad. The four arrested are believed to be the extra-regional suppliers of the Sardinian association headed by Sandro Arzu and Alessandro Ghisu, who were arrested last February, together with thirteen other people, again as part of Operation 'Ichnos'. The drug trafficking took place between Lombardy, Lazio and Sardinia. Investigators have ascertained that those arrested also had contacts with drug suppliers in Colombia and Albania. Between September and November, in this operation, the military seized an illegally held Belgian-made revolver with its ammunition, and recovered almost 15 kilos of cocaine and 1,5 kilos of heroin, among seizures that took place in Olbia, Lanusei and Macomer. For over a year, starting from September 2017, they had managed to bring 85 kilos of drugs including heroin and cocaine to Sardinia. But in February 2018, the Carabinieri had already dealt a heavy blow to the criminal organization with the arrest of 15 people, including the two leaders, Sandro Arzu and Alessandro Ghisu. Today the circle has closed with the execution of four precautionary custody orders in prison against the drug suppliers.
