Gambling in Italy is constantly expanding and recent data made available by the ADM (Customs and Monopolies Agency) provide interesting insights into the favorite games region by region.

Last year, spending on virtual sports betting increased by 42 billion euros compared to 2016, reaching 223 billion euros. Within this overall figure, Campania is at the top of the national ranking of the regions most passionate about this type of gambling, with a spending of 55 million euros, surpassing Sicily which stops at 30 million euros and Lombardy at 25 million euros.

Significant increases are also recorded in real sports betting, which in 2017 collected stakes for 790 million euros. In this sector too, our region stands out with an expenditure of 183 million euros, more than double that recorded in the Lombardy region which occupies the second step of the podium with 91 million euros. However, winnings are also growing, amounting to 892 million euros in Campania alone.

Looking at this data it is easy to understand why the major authorized operators that offer online gaming in Italy have long decided to offer sports betting options alongside the classic casino games. Also thanks to the offer of no deposit bonus for online casinos, there are many players who choose to open a gaming account with a remote operator, in order to have the opportunity to access the entire range of possible betting options with a simple click.

As for Lotto, Italians still rely on traditional forms of gaming, but in some regions such as Campania and Lombardy the 2017 collection registered a slight decline. In this game, the region that spends the most is Lombardy with 383 million euros, Campania is second with 342 million euros, a figure that represents a drop of almost 40 million euros compared to 2016.

Although Campania is recording a constant increase in the level of gambling, the Region does not appear to be able to keep up with the requests established to receive the funding allocated by the Observatory for pathological gambling at the Ministry of Health. At the end of November, in fact, the Observatory evaluated the regional plans and the documentation submitted by the various rented entities. All the proposals were approved except those of Campania and Calabria, Regions for which the lack of some necessary documents was found. The funds will therefore remain blocked until the two Regions send the complete documentation.

In the same meeting in which the Observatory evaluated the regional plans, the topic of the use of the “No Slot” logo, already active in many territories, was also discussed. The direction will be to draw up guidelines for its use, without however arriving at the choice of a single logo. Both these guidelines and the new examination of the documentation presented by the late Regions will be the subject of a new meeting scheduled for January 22, 2019.
