The NAS of Milan, concluding a complex investigative effort aimed at combating the unauthorized practice of medicine, has reported seven individuals at large. Three of the suspects are a surgeon, the legal representative, and the medical director of a clinic in Lombardy. They are accused of allowing four other individuals working at the same facility to unauthorizedly practice medicine, despite never having obtained the required qualifications. Specifically, the four so-called medical professionals specialized in the extraction and grafting of hair follicles for the treatment of baldness. The NAS of Genoa has also reported one individual for unauthorized practice. In this case, the crime was discovered during an inspection of an acupuncture practice. During the inspection, the Carabinieri discovered that the facility's owner was performing acupuncture after reviewing clients' diagnostic tests, thus calibrating his practice to a genuine therapeutic approach, a practice for which he had never obtained a degree from an Italian university. The Salerno NAS, following a series of investigations into the equipment used in the radiology department of a hospital in the province of Benevento, reported a person at large. The NAS investigations determined that the suspect, in his capacity as General Manager of the facility, had failed to implement quality assurance programs and to evaluate the dose/activity administered to patients using the radiographic equipment used in the radiology department.
