An entire team of young soccer players from Matelica suffered carbon monoxide poisoning after their regular training session yesterday afternoon. The players were transported to the Fabriano hospital (Ancona) and the Salesi maternity and pediatric hospital in Ancona, and from there sent to the "Iperbarica Adriatica" Center in Fano, where they spent the night for emergency oxygen therapy. The boys, aged 12 and 13, complained of discomfort while in the locker room: headache, nausea, drowsiness, and fainting. The coach also suffered carbon monoxide poisoning. Municipal technicians, firefighters, and the Carabinieri were on site. The facility was filled with carbon monoxide due to a boiler failure. Mayor Alessandro Delpriori prohibited use of the facility. The boys have recovered and have already been returned to their families.
