Naples. The image of the Godfather and the gun, along with Maradona and a football, on sugar packets distributed in some bars in Greece with the slogan "Naples, live dangerously" is not offensive to Naples: the European Commission has ruled, "acquitting" the distribution of the packets, claiming they constitute advertising. The news was announced by M5S MEP Isabella Adinolfi, who had submitted a question about the presence of denigrating and offensive images of Naples on the packets following reports last October. The Commission, Adinolfi reports, has held that under Article 5, paragraph 3, of Directive 2005/29/EC, a common and legitimate advertising practice consisting of exaggerated claims or claims that are not intended to be taken literally is not considered an unfair commercial practice. "I was honestly disappointed by the response I received from the European Union to a question regarding the spread of the usual stereotypes about the city of Naples. The response," Adinolfi commented, "seems completely at odds with the values of dignity and respect for cultures, expressed in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, which should unite us. Evidently, the European bureaucrats who have gained political power, thanks in part to the Democratic Party and Forza Italia, are allowed to offend the dignity of Naples and its people. A shameful decision, to say the least, which I am certain Neapolitans will bear in mind in the upcoming European elections."
