There is “a single direction” for the fires that have affected Northern Italy in recent months and it must be sought in the waste disposal sector.
Lor stated yesterday the Attorney General of Milan, Roberto Alfonso in his inaugural report of the judicial year: "We are witnessing an exponential increase in the signs indicating illicit activities in the waste disposal sector - explained the high magistrate - over the course of the last year there have been numerous arson attacks against formally authorized plants and disused industrial warehouses, but clandestinely packed with thousands of tons of waste, partly from Campania". "The extent of the phenomenon that affects all the northern regions - argues the Attorney General - suggests the presence of a single directorate, whose identification passes through the alert investigative coordination between the Anti-Mafia Directorates of the North, the Anti-Mafia Directorates of Naples, Salerno and those of Calabria".
Still on the subject of organised crime, Alfonso underlines “the strategic importance of the ‘social capital’ of mafia-style organisations, represented by their relational network which includes entrepreneurs, professionals, public officials, members of the police force and politicians and which constitutes their main asset”.
In his report, Alfonso also speaks this year of the results obtained in the fight against organized crime, and especially the 'ndrangheta, but focuses in particular on the "exponential increase in the indicators of illicit activities in the waste disposal sector", speaking of the many arson attacks in recent months in Lombardy, including that of a warehouse in Bovisasca, a northern suburb of Milan, with smoke that also reached the city center, last October.
“The alarm raised by the Attorney General of Milan, Roberto Alfonso, in his speech for the inauguration of the judicial year, on the hypothesis of a single criminal organization behind the too many arson attacks on illegal warehouses or illegal sites used for the disposal of waste clandestinely arriving from Campania, confirms how the metropolitan area of Milan and the province of Pavia are dangerously transforming into a new Land of Fires, as we have been denouncing for some time, also with parliamentary questions, in the face of this disturbing escalation of arson attacks in storage depots or landfills between the Milanese and Pavia hinterland”.
Paolo Grimoldi, secretary of the Lega Lombarda and deputy of the Lega, states this, commenting on the words of the Attorney General of Milan on the waste emergency in Lombardy. According to the representative of the Carroccio, Alfonso thus confirms "that we still need more men and resources to patrol the territories of Lombardy and that we still need greater attention from the Prefectures and Prosecutors, who have been working well for some time now, obtaining good results in terms of arrests, on the illegal activities of waste disposal, a new criminal business that is unfortunately expanding in Lombardy".
