Today, the landline is no longer a particularly popular option, especially because most conversations now take place on cell phones. Not to mention the fact that in certain areas of Italy the landline does not reach at all: we are talking about the so-called white areas, or the areas of the peninsula where telephone companies have no interest in investing. Although the National Broadband Plan is providing coverage to some of these areas, at the moment there are quite a few areas of the Peninsula without this option. In short, in these cities or towns neither ADSL nor fiber optics reach contributing to increasing the Digital Divide in our country. So the question is: how to get an Internet connection without a landline? There are three ways.

Connection via radio waves

The first option is called WiMax, and it is a system that allows you to connect to the Internet in broadband without the presence of cables. This technology involves the emission of the signal via radio waves, which obviously have a certain territorial range. This means that in this case too, a certain coverage by the operators is necessary. How does it work? Very simple: a repeater emits the signal, which is picked up by the antennas installed on the roofs of the homes that use this service. From the antenna, the signal is then conveyed to the home router through the use of an Ethernet cable. It should be noted that among the offers for Internet without a telephone for the home Linkem's FWA network is also located there: in this case what changes is the type of frequency used for signal transmission, together with the speed which is higher as it is ultra-wideband.

Satellite connection

Satellite connection also presents itself as a valid solution for Internet without a fixed line. This time we are talking about a technology that, as the name itself explains, exploits satellites in orbit for signal emission. This is how it works: satellites send the signal to a ground station (known as a NOC), which picks it up and sends it towards the Internet backbones. From there, the signal is then conveyed to satellite dishes installed on the roofs of homes. Finally, from the dishes, the signal reaches the satellite router, thus enabling web browsing.

3G and 4G mobile connection

It closes with 3G and 4G mobile connection, an Internet browsing option that can be set by activating Tethering on your smartphone. In practice, thanks to this solution it is possible to convert the mobile phone into a real router, to which you can connect via wifi with other devices such as a laptop. It should be noted that there are also routers that allow you to insert the SIM card inside them: these therefore allow you to use the 3G or 4G signal of the card in a more convenient and immediate way. On the other hand, you need to study the rates carefully because traffic in GB always has a limit.

In conclusion, those who cannot rely on a landline have at their disposal some very valid options to be able to easily navigate the web.
