Antonello Venditti returns to perform in Naples to celebrate “SOTTO IL SEGNO DEI PISCI”: on Saturday 16 March the Roman singer-songwriter will bring his show to the Palapartenope, which pays homage to one of the most important albums in Italian music.
Forty years have passed since Antonello Venditti published “Sotto il Segno dei Pesci”. It was a very hard historical moment, the height of the BR and few lights at the end of the tunnel. This handful of songs by Antonello, well produced by Michelangelo Romano and with a cover signed by Mario Convertino, essential and iconic, came out on March 8, 1978 in a social moment of very strong tensions and in which hope, the desire for change are enormous. It is the same need that the thirty-year-old experiences who has just left his artistic mother house, RCA, behind and is looking for a sound and themes that will give him a new impetus. Antonello takes inspiration from the Italy he sees around him. It is a personal and generational album at the same time.
“It was my musical, poetic turning point. My most important album, in which all my themes were present: politics and its effects on people (Sotto il Segno dei Pesci), communication (Il Telegiornale), the journey inside and outside of metaphor in Bomba O Non Bomba, drugs (Chen il Cinese), tenderness for Sara (who never married, but had three children...), friendship with De Gregori (Scusa Francesco). Ultimately, these are still current themes. Playing the album in its entirety forty years later, something I have never done, has a special meaning for me. For the occasion I also called the musicians from back then. I will place it at the center of 45 years of songs and I will share the stage with some guests,” says Antonello Venditti.
To celebrate the fortieth anniversary of “SOTTO IL SEGNO DEI PESCI”, one of the most significant albums that has made the history of Italian music, Antonello Venditti will hold a series of events, accompanied by his historic band, giving life to an intergenerational concert, with the songs from the album inserted at the center of 45 years of songs. A real journey with pearls that have entered the collective memory of an entire country, which tell of an era and have become timeless, which spoke to the youth of the time and are capable of communicating with the kids of today with an absolutely contemporary language.
