A potato vendor defrauded an elderly man and was arrested by the Carabinieri. The person who ended up in handcuffs was a 30-year-old from Afragola already known to the police, who took advantage of his job as a street vendor of potatoes to defraud a 76-year-old local man. The incident occurred in via Crocelle Camaldoli where the 30-year-old took a bag of tubers from his van, got out of the vehicle and went up to the house of the unfortunate man, who was alone because his wife had gone out. He then knocked on the door and explained to the elderly man that down in the street the lady had ordered 10 euros worth of potatoes from him and that he had been kind enough to bring them home, adding that all that remained was to pay for them. The elderly man, given the plausibility of the story, then paid 10 euros to pay the street vendor who, however, took the banknote in his hands, damaging it to make it apparently worthless, so that he could ask the victim to change it for another. The old man did not have a small note: so he took a 50 euro note and gave it to the seller waiting for the change while he insisted that he had given him a 10 note and not a 50. After a tug-of-war with the old man, the seller put the 50 euros in his pocket and drove away driving his vehicle and after a few meters he hit a truck. The Carabinieri of the local station intervened in the accident and checked the health of the drivers and then proceeded to carry out the investigations. And just as they were busy inspecting the scene they were reached by the defrauded old man who filed a complaint for fraud. After quick investigations the 30-year-old seller was arrested for fraud.
