Naval units of the Bari Naval Air Operations Department intercepted a six-meter long dinghy with a load of approximately 400 kg of marijuana and hashish off the coast of San Cataldo, Lecce marina, which would have brought in approximately 4 million euros on the black market. At the military checkpoint, the two Albanian traffickers who were on board attempted to escape but were caught and arrested on charges of possession and international trafficking of narcotics. The dinghy was towed to the port of Otranto where it was seized. The operation was carried out with the support of the naval air vehicles involved in the “Themis 2019” operation, promoted by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), coordinated at the local level by the Local Coordination Center established at the Naval Air Group of the Guardia di Finanza of Taranto.
