Angri. As part of a systematic risk analysis effort aimed at cracking down on cigarette smuggling, members of the Nola Financial Police Group identified and seized a shipment of over seven tons of foreign-manufactured tobacco, arresting five individuals in flagrante delicto.
In particular, the significant quantity of tle was found inside an articulated lorry with Bulgarian plates, located in an area used as a car park in the municipality of Angri, where, in addition to the driver, there were also other individuals. The military proceeded to a more in-depth check of the goods and, once they removed pallets containing fish products constituting the so-called "cover load" for over 2 tons, they discovered the contraband cigarettes.
The activities carried out, coordinated by this Public Prosecutor's Office, have thus allowed the recovery of a total of over 7 tons of foreign manufactured tobacco of various brands (equal to approximately 365 thousand packets), distributed along the entire length of the articulated lorry and, given the investigative results that have emerged, the individuals identified as responsible have been associated with the Salerno – Fuorni prison.
Investigations have confirmed that the illicit activity of smuggling foreign manufactured tobacco, constantly increasing in the Campania region, constitutes, within the scope of illegal activities, one of the most profitable sectors.
