Arzano – Another podium, another victory for the Scala sisters. After Roberta Scala's magnificent gold medal in the Junior category, her sister Martina now takes home a remarkable bronze medal in the 54 kg cadet category. The young athlete competed in six matches, winning the first 5-0, the second 3-0, and in the third match, she faced the defending Italian champion, but she stood firm and finished 1-0. In the fourth match, trailing by five points, she rallied impressively to win 6-5. However, she lost in the pool final due to a trivial immature error. In the bronze medal match, once again trailing 1-0, she landed a stunning uramawashi, worth three points and sealing the match. The two athletes train at New Body Guard in Arzano, a young karate club that already boasts two national podium finishes. Their instructor is Luigi Marotta, coach of the Campania Regional Sports Council; their athletic trainer and director of the sports center is Luigi Scala; and their mental coach is Giovanni Savarese. The two sisters, all about sports and education, have two very important competitions in the coming months, and in July they will be on retreat with the national youth team. All the members of the sports center and the citizens of Arzano wish these two promising Italian karate athletes the best of luck.
