A 12-year-old girl has died from injuries sustained in a boating accident that occurred this afternoon in the Venice lagoon. The victim was on board a small boat with three other people, which, according to initial reports, struck a mooring post. The force of the impact threw the girl overboard and she died on the way to the hospital. The accident occurred around 5:30 PM in the northern part of the lagoon, near Punta Sabbioni. In addition to the serious injuries from the impact, the girl suffered cardiac arrest. Emergency workers performed cardiac massage and then immediately rushed her to the Santi Giovanni e Paolo Hospital in Venice, but unfortunately, to no avail. The other occupants of the boat did not suffer serious injuries, but the 12-year-old's father was hospitalized in severe shock.
