This is the story told by the former boss Salvatore Belforte, a former collaborator of justice from Marcianise, who reconstructed the history of the Mazzacane clan in the file of the murder of Orlando Carbone, killed 33 years ago by the Belfortes. The former clan leader was present this morning for the preliminary hearing in court in Santa Maria CV, before the preliminary hearing judge Ivana Salvatori, for this very murder but for the last time for this proceeding, in fact, from the next hearing, he will be tried by videoconference as requested by the defense, attorney Salvatore Piccolo. Furthermore, the preliminary hearing judge accepted the request made for an abbreviated trial. Therefore, the proceedings for Belforte, prior to 1992, will follow the old trial. An alternative trial, with a reduction of one third of the sentence, is not permitted, however, with the recent law for mafia crimes. Above all, the videoconference was granted and will be held in November not because Salvatore Belforte is a former collaborator of justice but because the law provides for it for those who have been convicted in the past under art. 7 for mafia crimes. Carbone, according to the prosecution, was killed by the Mazzacane clan together with his uncle, Giuseppe Tammariello, 33 years ago, because they were both inconvenient and unreliable witnesses. After the massacre of S. Martino with 4 dead and 4 wounded, (which occurred in November 1986 on the very day of San Martino and in via S. Martino in Marcianise) in a firefight with the police on the same day Paolo Cutillo alias 'Jack the beast' was killed, the main linchpin in Marcianise of the Cutoliani and Orlando Carbone together with his uncle Giuseppe Tammariello (originally from Marcianise but transferred at the time to Rome where they had been hired by the Belfortes) who had participated in the massacre were stopped at a roadblock and immediately released by the carabinieri. Episode that aroused too much suspicion in the Belforte brothers who decreed his death for unreliability. Carbone's body was found by Salvatore Belforte himself, during the period of his collaboration, that of his uncle Tammariello was never found because perhaps dissolved in acid. Until the discovery of Orlando Carbone's body, the only crime of which Salvatore Belforte was accused, it was still possible to find in Rome the certificate of residence of the young man declared dead only in 2015 when the remains of the bones were found in a well.
