LThe Supreme Court, sixth criminal section, presided over by Dr. Petitti and with Dr. Costanzo as rapporteur, in full acceptance of the widespread appeal proposed by lawyers Dario Vannetiello and Alfonso Furgiuele, has annulled the sentence of 16 years and 4 months of imprisonment handed down to Domenico Pagnozzi on 12.03.18 by the Court of Appeal of Naples – IV section –. The charge at issue in the trial is that of having directed and organised that historic organisation which has been operating for over thirty years in the two provinces of Benevento and Avellino, with offshoots in the Neapolitan hinterland, in particular in S. Giovanni a Teduccio, with significant and recent ramifications in the city of Rome. He has been investigated and tried several times in the past for murder, without ever being sentenced to life imprisonment.
The well-known magistrate Raffale Cantone, when he was the public prosecutor in charge of the district anti-mafia office of Naples, in the trial of the infamous Casalesi clan, called for their acquittal with a surprising motivation: a charismatic Camorrista who should not be considered a member of the Casalesi clan since he had successfully opposed their attempt to incorporate him into their impressive ranks. It was then that the Casalesi decreed his death, from which “o professore” escaped at first due to fortuitous circumstances, then due to his ability to weave alliances in the criminal world. The district office of the capital city has for years firmly maintained that Domenico Pagnozzi, a person respected by leading figures of the 'ndrangheta and those who were part of the Magliana gang, had exported Camorra methods and systems to the capital of Italy, starting to impose himself way back in 2001 with the murder of the Sicilian boss Giuseppe Carlino which took place on the Lazio coast.
: Just when the funeral arrangements in Rome of a well-known Casamonica member caused a stir in Italy, an experienced journalist from a well-known national daily newspaper, before the 61 arrests of Domenico Pagnozzi's Roman affiliates were carried out, reported the criminal power now achieved in the city of Rome by the man who among the Lazio followers was nicknamed "ice eyes", respected and feared even by the Casamonica, as also emerged from the wiretaps of the so-called "capital camorra" trial. With the latest decision taken by the Supreme Court, the trial must be completely redone before a different section of the Court of Appeal of Naples. To date, Pagnozzi is subjected to harsh prison and awaits the setting of another cassation trial, that of the sentence to 30 years of imprisonment for having directed two criminal associations in the city of Rome, one intended for drug trafficking, the other aimed at imposing himself on the economy of the capital also through violence and threats. This decision could determine the end of the judicial history of the Campanian boss or suddenly return him to freedom for the umpteenth time, as has happened several times in the past.
