The sea of the Domitian coast is suitable for swimming and there are no dangers detected by water analysis. The cause of the inconvenience is a bloom of microalgae. This was explained by Arpac, which carried out a series of additional samples after the reports received regarding an anomalous coloration of the sea that occurred last weekend, in particular in the municipality of Castel Volturno. Here, last Monday, the Environmental Agency repeated, outside of the calendar, the checks that are carried out to determine the suitability of the water for swimming, monitoring the microbiological parameters Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci indicators of fecal contamination. Additional analyses were also carried out to determine the concentration of surfactants and phytoplankton. This set of samples was aimed at understanding whether the phenomenon could be caused by urban wastewater discharges or an abundant bloom of microalgae. On the same day, Monday, routine samples were carried out to monitor the bathing waters of the nearby municipalities of Mondragone and Cellole. The results of the analyses relating to microbiological parameters were made public yesterday, as usual, through the Agency's website and the bathing app available for smartphones. All the samples taken in the three municipalities of Caserta gave favorable results regarding the suitability of the water for bathing. Today, the results of the extra parameters taken into consideration following the reports are also available. Surfactants were found to be absent in all the samples analysed, while an abundant proliferation of phytoplankton was found, albeit of microalgae species not considered toxic to humans.
