They had set out on a solo hike in the Lepini Mountains, but due to the intense heat and high temperatures, they lost their bearings and were unable to retrace the path that would have led them back to their car. A terrible experience befell two Roman men, aged 59 and 52, who were located after a six-hour search by the Carabinieri of the Colleferro company, along with Civil Protection personnel from Carpineto Romano and three mountain rescue teams from Rome, Frosinone, and Collepardo. The hikers, setting out from the Faggetta plain, reached Mount Semprevisa, in the Carpineto Romano area, around 5:00 PM. Struck by the sweltering heat and cramps, they lost their bearings and contacted a relative asking for help. After a call to the Carabinieri company operations center in Colleferro, the military activated the rescue operation. A 118 helicopter also flew over the area to conduct the search until sunset. Thanks to their knowledge of the Lepini Mountains, the Carabinieri of the Carpineto Romano station were able to determine their location at 11:00 p.m., allowing for rapid intervention by the Alpine Rescue team and 118 paramedics. Frightened and exhausted, but fortunately unharmed, the hikers were transported to the Carabinieri station and, during the night, accompanied to their car.
