Naples. Extraordinary control operation in numerous stations in the regional territory. 592 people were identified, 476 bags were checked and three people were reported. In addition, 1500 pairs of counterfeit glasses were seized. This is the result of the extraordinary operation called Active Shield, coordinated at a national level by the Railway Police Service of the Ministry of the Interior, which involved over 24 operators of the Railway Police Specialty for 100 hours throughout the regional territory. The initiative is part of the international police collaboration activity of the RAILPOL network, made up of the Police Forces of 18 European countries, which operate in the railway sector. The control activity of the Railway Police patrols that manned the entrance gates of the stations, with latest-generation smartphones for real-time document control and with metal detectors, in the Salerno and Naples Central stations was extended to the baggage deposits. At the Napoli Centrale station during the high-impact operation, the dog of the local Police Headquarters' anti-drug canine unit reported a person who was hiding a narcotic substance. The man was found in possession of several grams of marijuana and reported to the Administrative Authority for violations related to the narcotics legislation. The substance was seized. At Napoli Centrale, a criminal was reported for boarding a regional train with no travel address, hiding in the bathroom to evade checks. The man then provided false personal details to the Railway Police officers who intervened on board.
Also at Napoli Centrale, 1500 pairs of glasses were seized. A patrol noticed a foreigner who was struggling to drag a bulky bag and who, seeing the Railway Police officers, ran away, abandoning his bag, inside which the large quantity of counterfeit goods was found.
