A turning point that “will change the face of the region”. This is what the president of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca said, speaking to Radio Crc, about the green light for the Campania airport system that will include the two airports of Naples Capodichino and Pontecagnano, in the province of Salerno. “Campania – De Luca recalled – was the only large region with just one airport. The problem is that Capodichino, which has been managed splendidly and grown a lot in recent years, has reached its maximum expansion potential, it is an airport in the middle of an urban area and we cannot go much beyond 10 million travellers. The idea is to give Capodichino the mandate to manage the entire Campania airport system, adding the Costa d'Amalfi airport to Capodichino. This will give Capodichino some breathing space and we aim, within 3 or 5 years, to have an airport system that guarantees a development of 17,5 million passengers distributed across the two airports”. In the operation, De Luca added, "investments of 230 million euros are committed between the private fund that manages Capodichino and the Region, and we will have employment for over 8500 new jobs and an increase in GDP for Campania of over 150 million euros per year is estimated. We are proud of this operation".
