“Almost everything is ready, we are now in the final rush”. This was stated by the President of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca, speaking this morning on Radio Crc, speaking about the 2019 Naples Universiade that will begin on July 3. “This was truly a gamble, a madness that I believe we are winning – added De Luca – I remember that 5 years ago the Universiade was intended for Brazil, which then withdrew due to economic difficulties. We took over with a 2-year delay, having to invest 270 million euros on our own. I remember that, just to be admitted, we paid Lausanne, where FISU is based, 20 million euros”. De Luca explained the reasons for the gamble: “We decided on this large investment to give a radical change to the image of Naples and Campania in the world, to give a boost to the tourism and hospitality economy, then to have an event of great beauty from the point of view of culture and human exchange between thousands of athletes from all over the world. Then - he recalled - we are rebuilding 60 sports facilities in Naples and in other municipalities of Campania with the money of the Region, facilities abandoned for decades that have been reborn. A revolution that should also serve to relaunch a large youth sports movement in the neighborhoods at risk, an opportunity to meet and absorb positive values that sport transmits", concluded De Luca
