Benevento.
The only acquittal for 'not having committed the crime' was reserved for Rosa Perone, wife of Giovanni Colombo, defended by the lawyer Vannetiello. Perone had been sentenced, in the first instance, to 6 years of imprisonment, for having traded and sold large quantities of narcotic substances. Already in the first instance Rosa Perone obtained acquittal from the charge of having been part of the criminal association headed by her husband. The judges of the second instance fully shared the defense arguments supported by the lawyer Dario Vannetiello also giving back her freedom to Perone Rosa.
The Court of Appeal, at the end of the trial, reformed the first-instance sentence also for the other defendants, reducing the sentence of Giovanni Colombo, 51 years old, considered the promoter of international drug trafficking, from 16 years to 10 years of imprisonment, and reducing the sentence of his brother Pasquale (58 years old) from 9 years to 7 years - both defended by the lawyer Vittorio Fucci, the two main defendants did not renounce the reasons for acquittal - and Paolo Taverna from 6 years and 6 months to 4 years and 4 months of imprisonment. Michele De Lucia, 54 years old, and Carmelo Colombo, 29 years old, both from Montesarchio, defended by the lawyer Vittorio Fucci, had already been acquitted in the first-instance trial of the charge of international drug trafficking and aggravated drug dealing. The trial, which sees the Colombo brothers and other people as defendants, is based on telephone and environmental interceptions as well as on various seizures of tons of narcotics on the Italy-Spain axis.
The Court of Appeal of Naples granted the mitigating circumstances prevailing over the aggravating circumstance of the large quantity, adjusted the sentences and convicted:
