They are 7 prizes awarded at the end of the ninth edition of the Trofeo Abatese Cup 2019, the national youth football tournament dedicated to the memory of Enzo Gargiulo, with the patronage of the Municipality of Sant'Antonio Abate. The event saw the participation of over 800 athletes belonging to 55 teams e 30 youth football clubs.
“Once again, sportsmanship won,” they explained. Castle Gargiulo e Geo Cyril, organizers of the Abatese Cup Trophy – and the enthusiasm shown by these kids from all over Italy. In particular, we were struck by an episode that happened without our knowledge in the locker room where, at the end of the match, a boy from the team that had won the match went to console the rivals by telling them that they had played better and being stronger they deserved to win. A testimony that we decided to reward with a special mention and that reminds us that fair play is still the only lifeline for football. We are happy to have involved over 800 kids from 30 different clubs and we want to thank the managers of the various clubs, the parents of the kids and obviously the Geca staff who allowed us to organize the tournament once again”.
The event, which lasted three days, opened with a triangular tournament reserved for the 2007/08 categories, won by the Abatese cup team. The following day, space was given to the 2006 experimental 11-a-side category, won by Sc Phoenyx academy Benincasa, while on the third and final day the following clubs won: Olimpia Nocera Salerno in the 2009 category; Olimpia club Sant'Antonio Abate in the 2010 category; Sc Wembley Bellizzi in the 2008 category and, finally, the fairplay award went to Scd Vesuvio.
