Only the intervention of the Carabinieri prevented a full-blown disaster. During the evening, officers from the Aversa company's mobile radio unit, led by Major Catalano, arrested a 26-year-old man from Normandy on charges of extortion and attempted collapse of a building. Visibly upset and with a criminal record for extortion, domestic violence, and robbery, the young man, when his mother refused to give him money, presumably needed to purchase drugs, turned on the gas, threatening to collapse the roof of the house and blow up the entire building.
The Carabinieri immediately went to the scene. The boy was furious, near the gas with some electrical cables in his hands. The soldiers tried to convince him, to make him reason. A tactic to gain time and gradually get closer to the boy who was thus immobilized and rendered harmless.
The 26-year-old, TL, these are his initials, was taken, as ordered by the judicial authorities, to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison.
