Rocca di Papa. The Velletri Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating charges of negligent disaster and serious or very serious bodily harm resulting from negligence in the explosion that occurred this morning in Rocca di Papa, in the province of Rome, which affected the town hall. The alleged crimes are contained in a file, currently against unknown persons, coordinated by Chief Prosecutor Francesco Prete. In the coming hours, investigators will interview a series of witnesses at the Frascati Carabinieri station to reconstruct the events. A gas leak was responsible for the explosion that occurred this morning in the town hall of Rocca di Papa, a small town a few kilometers from the capital. Among those injured, the most serious is the mayor, Emanuele Crestini, who suffered serious burns to his face and arms. The total number of injuries is 16, of whom six were treated on site by Ares 118 personnel and did not require hospitalization. The remaining 10 injured were transported or arrived by private transport to the hospitals in Frascati, the Policlinico Tor Vergata, and the Bambino Gesù. A total of three, including the mayor, were subsequently transported to the Sant'Eugenio Burns Center in Rome. Immediately following the rescue, messages of support poured in from various quarters, starting with that of Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi. All municipalities and organizations in the surrounding area also expressed their support, including the Castelli Romani Park: "This morning, a gas leak caused a violent explosion, causing the collapse of the municipal façade. In addition to serious damage, there have unfortunately been several injuries. The Castelli Romani Park is close to the community of Rocca di Papa and is operational to support the rescue operations."
In the evening, Deputy Mayor Veronica Cimino issued two ordinances. The first established a red zone around the explosion area, with access prohibited to all except rescue workers and law enforcement. The ordinance also ordered the evacuation of homes in the area and adjacent to the town hall, as well as the closure of the school in the city center. The second ordinance temporarily moved the municipal headquarters to the Scuola dei campi D'Annibale. The 36 registered displaced persons were assigned temporary accommodation, the Municipality explains, communicating that "for any request to be included in the list of displaced persons and/or for requests for basic necessities or assistance, it is possible to go to the Local Crisis Unit in Piazza della Repubblica".
