Gabriele Cipolla, the 15-year-old promising soccer player, had just returned to his hometown of Serramanna (Cagliari) after spending a day at the beach with friends. He was struck and killed by a train last night at the Serramanna train station. The boy, along with a small group of his peers, had just disembarked from the train from Cagliari and decided to cross the tracks. Gabriele was last in line and didn't notice the arrival of the express train to Cagliari, which struck him. Railway police officers worked through the night to reconstruct the events of the tragedy and gather various testimonies. The first to emerge were from the boy's friends, who witnessed the accident from just meters away. The driver was in shock and unable to brake. The train stopped approximately 200 meters from the site of the impact. The judicial authorities have ordered the vehicle to be impounded. The mayor of Serramanna, Sergio Murgia, has announced a day of mourning. Gabriele Cipolla attended Alberti High School in Cagliari and was captain of the Gialeto soccer team. "We will never forget this day at the end of June. Our brightest star has left us, but the path he blazed in his short earthly life has shaped the club's journey," the club wrote on their Facebook page. "Oh no, he wasn't a champion because he scored a lot of goals, nor was he the captain because he imposed it. No, he was chosen by his teammates because he was a charismatic leader, because he knew how to make himself heard, because he knew how to make himself loved, and because he gave energy and positive energy to those around him. From today and forever, we are certain, Gialeto will have a bright star in the sky, watching over them. You will always be in our hearts, Gabriele, we will never forget you."
