Implement and transmit good practices that are good for the environment. With the signature of the manifesto of intent by the president, Michele Di Natale, and the CEO, Giovanni Paolo Marati, GORI's path towards the elimination of single-use plastic from corporate life began. A moment "of particular importance for the manager of the integrated water service, which thus intends to give ever greater concreteness to the principles of sustainability and collective well-being. Providing all employees with a personal water bottle, equipping all offices with paper cups, installing additional water dispensers connected to the water supply and eliminating the supply of drinks in plastic bottles from vending machines are just the first actions that the Company has decided to implement, in order to quickly become an ambassador and protagonist of the Plastic Free program. Through these actions, in fact, approximately 635.000 500 ml plastic bottles can be saved from the environment every year”, is written in a note. “Global plastic production – says GORI president Michele Di Natale – has gone from 15 million tons in 1964 to over 310 million tons today, of which over 8 million end up directly in the oceans every year. The theme of Plastic Free therefore enters our company daily life and, through a series of actions that will start today, becomes a concrete action that, on the one hand, anticipates the European directive that from 2021 will ban single-use plastic and, on the other, aims to be an example for the citizens of our territory". “What we are presenting – underlines the CEO of GORI, Giovanni Paolo Marati – is a process that has been going on for some years, thanks also to the project linked to the water houses, which has contributed to eliminating the use of plastic for users who use them regularly”. In fact, from 2015 to today, thanks to the 20 houses set up in 15 municipalities, approximately 14 million litres of water have been supplied, compared to approximately 9 million bottles not used, 380 thousand kilos of PET saved and 3 million and 300 thousand kilos of carbon dioxide not emitted. “Today we are starting a widespread activity that starts from within us but which has the objective of involving all the municipal administrations and schools that want to sign our Plastic Free manifesto, to start shared and, therefore, more effective actions. It is a mission that we must pursue together, to safeguard the environment that surrounds us,” concludes Marati. “Even before being a communications campaign – concludes Mara De Donato, Head of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility – “Plastic Free” is a long-term project, which is part of the broader framework of sustainability actions that Gori has launched. Today's is just the first step. Many other initiatives are planned, which will always be characterized by interaction and the active involvement of participants."
