Arrested in Spain because accused, together with two other colleagues, of the two fires on board the Grande Europa ship of GrimaldiLines. At the center of the story a young officer from Gragnano.
Since Thursday, in fact, the third officer of the merchant navy Cristian Porritiello has been detained in the barracks of the Guardia Civil in Valencia. According to Spanish investigators, the 28-year-old is responsible for the two fires on board the Grimaldi Group ship «Grande Europa». Ready to do battle on this legal case, between Spain and Italy, are the two internationalist lawyers Alexandro Maria Tirelli and Nicola Corrado, of the firm «International lawyers associates». The officer from Gragnano, protagonist of an ugly story that took place on the night between May 14 and 15, immediately declared himself innocent. The Grande Europa, of the Grimaldi group, departed from the port of Salerno and headed for Valencia, was the victim of the fire for which, among others, the Campania soldier is accused, following investigations carried out by the Guardia Civil. Defending two of the three officers involved, the second and third on board Bilistreri and Porritiello, are the Neapolitan internationalist lawyers Alexandro Maria Tirelli and Nicola Corrado. The two lawyers immediately expressed their perplexity, harboring strong doubts about Spain's jurisdiction to judge the case, "given that the facts - as underlined by the lawyers themselves - would have occurred in international waters on a ship flying the Italian flag". It is still unclear on what elements Porritiello was arrested. Some hypothesize that it was the footage from the video surveillance cameras that led the investigators to his tracks.
