"We have presented a motion in the regional council to commit the government to declare a state of "climate and environmental emergency" in Campania as has already happened in 500 other local authorities around the world. A formal act, with a profound symbolic meaning, which means greater commitment, first and foremost on the part of politics, in respecting the environment. The statute of the Region provides for the protection and enhancement of the environment, the territory, natural resources and rural heritage; the protection of ecosystems and biodiversity, we must take on the responsibility of creating a gap between our region and every possible source of pollution". This is stated by the regional councilor of the Greens Francesco Emilio Borrelli. "This commitment - continues Borrelli - must not only represent a symbolic act but must be followed by an eco-sustainable and environmentally friendly political approach. In the motion, in fact, we ask for the preparation within six months of a series of initiatives that go in the direction of reducing emissions and promoting renewable energy, to encourage energy saving in the sectors of Urban Planning, Mobility, buildings, heating and cooling, urban reforestation, as well as indicating among the priorities the active involvement of citizens and associations in the process of identifying environmental criticalities and in their solution and the commitment of the Campania Region to take an active part with the national Government so that similar measures are adopted".
