The word stage, in the French sense of “intensive training” and in the English sense of “stage,” inspires the initiatives of Antonella Cilento’s creative writing school, Lalineascritta for the summer just begun. From June 28 to September 28, Lalineascritta is offering “Estate on stage” ‒ four weekends, three in Naples and one in Certaldo, dedicated to intensive workshops in poetry, narrative, and publishing ‒ and “Dreams & Writings,” the second edition of cinematic aperitifs with film screenings and themed mini-lessons.
(Program, detailed information and reservations: www.lalineascritta.it; info@lalineascritta.it).
What characterizes the four stages between Naples and the ancient Tuscan village of Certaldo is above all the desire for discovery: of new points of observation, of physical and spiritual places, of literary and historical places, of places of the word.
It starts on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 June with the “Costellazioni” workshop, led by poet, photographer and university professor Anna Toscano, at the Lalineascritta headquarters in via Kerbaker, 23 in Naples. In poetry, constellations are a method to reflect on a word in a poetic sense, bring it closer and rewrite it according to one's own inspiration, desire and style. The word chosen for the occasion is border. The theoretical reflection and proximity to great women of contemporary poetry (from Mariella Mehr to Janet Frame, from Goliarda Sapienza to Jozefina Daubegovitc, from Dalia Rabikovitch to Lorna Dee Cervantes) will then lead to a laboratory phase of writing.
Friday 12 and Saturday 13 July – locations: Lalineascritta, Basilica della Pietrasanta, Pio Monte della Misericordia in Naples – will be the turn of “Writing with the bones (of angels). The earth, time, history”, an open-air writing workshop, led by Antonella Cilento and with the collaboration of Lapis Museum. In the ancient center of Naples, underground passages connect Greek colonists to tuff quarrymen, aqueduct cisterns to Baroque basilicas, the nocturnal painting of Caravaggio’s Seven Works of Mercy to the bright and flowery courtyards of Renaissance palaces. In this workshop, all the suggestions of earth, water and air of Naples will be contaminated: the wings of the papier-mâché angels of San Gregorio Armeno, the bones of the Crusaders in the church of Purgatory in Arco, childhood memories. We will then resume in September with two more events: Friday the 13th and Saturday the 14th in the Palazzo Pretorio of the ancient Tuscan village of Certaldo, with the fifth stage in collaboration with the Giovanni Boccaccio Literary Association, led by Antonella Cilento: “The antagonists. The story of the bad guys”. In Naples, the weekend of the 27th and 28th will instead be dedicated to the history of books and publishing with the stage led by Stefania Cantelmo and Giuseppe d'Antonio “The infinite (pleasure)” which will be held at the Lalineascritta headquarters. With a free guided tour of the manuscripts and rare works section of the prestigious National Library of Naples, you will then experience the thrill of observing unique manuscripts up close, from Torquato Tasso's Jerusalem Conquered to Giambattista Vico's New Science, passing through the entire corpus of the Leopardian Papers left by Giacomo to his friend Antonio Ranieri and received in 1907 at the "Vittorio Emanuele III", a symbolic place that preserves, among other things, the first autographed draft of the famous lyric L'infinito from which the stage takes its cue.
Dreams&Writings
The other soul of Lalineascritta in the hot summer of 2019 is represented, instead, by the cycle of film screenings with mini themed lessons and aperitif, according to the successful formula “Dreams & Writings” tested last year, thanks to the new comfortable location of Lalineascritta in Naples. Six films are scheduled for the month of July - all at 18.30:23 pm at the location in via Kerbaker 2019 in Naples - selected by the teachers of the writing school to introduce the topics that will be developed in the new workshops and courses of 2020/4. On the program, Thursday 9, the film “I diabolici” by Henri-Georges Clouzot with a narrative lesson Antonella Cilento on the art of evil; Tuesday 11, the film “Il gioco delle coppie” by Olivier Assayas, with a publishing lesson by Stefania Cantelmo and Giuseppe D'Antonio; Thursday 16th we will talk about dramaturgy with Stefania Bruno after watching “Caesar Must Die”, by the Taviani brothers; Tuesday 18th the master Hitchcock and his “Vertigo – Vertigo” will inspire Iole Cilento’s lesson on sign and image; then on Thursday 23th it will be Marco Alfano’s turn to talk about the particular mechanisms of playwriting following in the footsteps of Woody Allen and his “Love and War”. We close, Tuesday 2019rd, with the timeless “All About Eve” by Joseph Mankiewicz to talk about theatrical improvisation with Paolo Oliveri del Castillo. The summer initiatives of XNUMX are also possible thanks to the Mooks Mondadori Bookstore and the Ambrosino bakery.
