Lower Nocera. Little Iolanda Passariello died from the injuries she suffered, according to the autopsy ordered by the prosecutor's office after the eight-month-old baby from Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino arrived in desperate conditions at the Umberto I hospital in Nocera Inferiore on the night between Friday and Saturday. There is maximum confidentiality regarding the matter being investigated by the Nocera Prosecutor's Office. Little Iolanda arrived at the hospital with bruises, ecchymoses, and other injuries showing signs of violence. What is certain is that death occurred following a traumatic event. The forensic doctors also took a sample of some of the tissues that will be subjected to histological examination that will shed further light on the causes of death. The body has been released and the funeral will be held in the next few days. For the occasion, Nunzio Carpentieri, mayor of Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino, the municipality where the family resides, has ordered a day of mourning. Retracing the moments of that tragic evening is Immacolata Monti, Iolanda's mother and wife of Giuseppe Passariello, who ended up in prison for the little girl's death. A precautionary measure issued for fear that the man might escape. Investigators believe that he was the one who inflicted the injuries on his daughter, injuries that would later lead to the little girl's death. Accusations also confirmed by his wife who, in the end, gave in and told the investigators everything. “The situation began to degenerate,” the woman said, “when he returned to the community. He started abusing my daughter again every day. My husband would pinch my daughter by the cheeks and lift her up high. My daughter kept crying and I couldn't protest otherwise she would hit me. Even before the pinching, he would pick up my daughter and hold her tightly to his face and rub his face against hers, so much so that it made her bleed. Around 3.30 (the night between Friday and Saturday) when my daughter was sleeping I woke up to go to the bathroom but first I checked if she was okay and I noticed that she wasn't breathing, her face was all swollen and her eyes were closed, I didn't hear her heartbeat. I put her back in the crib and went to call my husband, I took the baby and brought her to the kitchen, my husband was on the couch. My husband – continues the woman – told me not to worry, maybe he was in a coma. I grabbed a glass of water and threw it on her face to get a reaction. Since she wasn't breathing, my mother started giving her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and I went to call my neighbor Anna to have her call the ambulance." In the story, the woman also says that her husband was not happy when he heard the news that his wife would soon give birth to a daughter. “From the moment he found out it was going to be a girl,” she says, “he told me it wouldn’t be the same because he was more attached to the boy. In fact, when she was born in the hospital he only picked her up a few times. Then, at 4 months my husband started telling me that he didn't want her because he wanted another boy. From there he started pinching her and saying that he didn't want her, these pinches were quite strong so much so that the little girl immediately started screaming. Despite this he continued to use force, he held her tight, she had to understand that he was the father. I told my husband that he had to stop, he had to stay calm. For a while he stopped because I immediately started screaming as soon as I saw him with the baby. I screamed loudly to make myself heard outside my house, hoping that someone would hear my screams and call the police." (emidav)
