Naples. The new program for the artistic redevelopment and social regeneration of the Rione Luzzatti-Ascarelli, a working-class neighborhood on the eastern outskirts of Naples, recently in the spotlight for the well-known events of the best-seller “My Brilliant Friend,” was inaugurated this morning in Naples. Launched at the beginning of 2018 with the “I Colori del Rione” campaign by Anema&Coop, the project saw lively participation from residents, involving in particular class III E of the “Ruggiero-Bonghi” comprehensive institute. The students, inspired by the shared reading with teachers and tutors of some passages of Elena Ferrante's novel, transferred their emotions onto paper, sending a drawing to the famous street artist Gomez for the elaboration of their work, produced in just six days. A major work in the heart of the neighborhood, visible from Piazza Lo Bianco, which could begin the transformation of the district into a true attraction site – on the successful model of the “Parco dei Murales” in Ponticelli – thus imagining the creation of the “Rione dei Murales”. The project proponents, Anema&Coop and NAStartUP, with Municipality 4 of the City of Naples, immediately involved INWARD – National Observatory on Urban Creativity in the entire project, an institution that, after having conceived and produced it, coordinates the “Parco dei Murales”. For the launch project, signed by Gomez, a social crowdfunding was started last year on Meridonare – Fondazione Banco di Napoli, to which were added the essential technical sponsorship of Cromology and the incentives of Elevateur and Holiday Inn Naples. The project “I Colori del Rione”, therefore, will continue in the “Rione dei Murales” program, thanks also to the support and enthusiasm of residents, operators and shopkeepers in the area. “Trusting on the first mural which is a real work of art – so Alfredo Russo of the Lounge Bar Abbracciame – I think it is very nice to give a lot of color to the neighborhood. These are realities that also improve the social situation of the context in which we live. How lucky to have these projects! Even Pino Daniele sang 'Napule è mille culure' and we could be a beautiful shade of this city". Color gives warmth – adds Gino Brillante of El Bibitaro – “I am happy with this idea because it gives new light to the neighborhood: color increases its attractiveness. I think that contributing to all this represents a strong civic sense, like when you take a piece of paper from the ground and throw it in the bin. Murals could improve the quality of life for residents. I think that citizens are happier and I think that in the long run all this can change people's mood. Our children in the future will also continue to raise their heads to admire the positive messages contained in works of art." “I think that, as already happened for the Parco dei Murales, where people with guided tours now crowd the neighborhood – explains Francesca Brillante, educator – the same thing could happen here too. Media interest in the neighborhood would grow. It is also a strong signal for young people who can learn even more to believe in their dreams. Many minors think they are not at the centre of the city: the neighbourhood can make its voice heard, shouting that we are worthy of being called the centre!”. I think it's "a good idea," says Lino Di Leva, owner of the hardware store, "to bring tourism to the neighborhood. This is a place of passage, there is nothing here. The idea could be an inspiration for many young people who could start to become interested in street art and how a work of art is created. I think it's really an innovation." Numerous new supporters have already signed up to transform the neighborhood into the "Rione dei Murales," thanks in part to the passionate commitment of Bruno Flora, a young resident and the project's driving force, and Stefano Maria Capocelli, Councilor for Mobility and Tourism for Municipality 4 of the City of Naples.
