“Is it normal, legitimate and regular that the rates of GORI Spa, the entity managing the Integrated Water Service of the Optimal Territorial Area 3 Sarnese-Vesuviano of Campania, fluctuate, increase and soar beyond measure as users unfortunately know and suffer?” This was reported by MP Teresa Manzo of the 5 Star Movement in her question addressed to Minister Sergio Costa after the Authority (ARERA) resolution 63/2018 ascertained the violation by Gori spa of the provisions regarding the tariff regulation of the integrated water service and imposed an administrative fine of 491.000 euros on the same. “According to the numerous reports that I receive daily from citizens of ATO3 in Campania, GORI charges extremely high rates, incomparable to those of other territories and regions,” Manzo attacks. “There is a suspicion that GORI managers, perhaps not achieving economic-financial equilibrium, are passing on additional management costs to users.” “GORI Spa must guarantee the management of the water service according to criteria of efficiency, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness,” the spokesperson emphasizes, “as stated in the Integrated Water Service Charter, drawn up by the Spa itself and defined as the instrument with which it undertakes to guarantee the rights of its customers.” With the same provision, the Authority also ordered the company to return the amounts charged to users as purification rates for the years 2012 and 2013, in violation of the provisions of resolution 585/2012/R/idr. “I would like to remind you that the company GORI Spa manages the water service in 76 municipalities in the Sarnese-Vesuvian District of Campania – she adds – and, despite the serious deficiencies and obsolescence of the systems, frequent disruptions, and water shortages, it applies some of the most expensive rates in Italy”. “Among other things, we must not forget that the same GORI Spa collects millions of euros from the Campania Region – concludes the deputy Teresa Manzo – therefore I officially ask the Minister to intervene in order to ensure that the development and maintenance of the water infrastructures are guaranteed and also to implement a rationalization of the rates so that they are not vexatious for the users”.
