Portuguese Paulo Fonseca is the new head coach of Roma. The Giallorossi club announced the news in a statement posted on their website. The 46-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the club, with an option to extend for a third. The Portuguese national, born in 1973 in Mozambique, joins from Shakhtar Donetsk, a Ukrainian club, where he won the cup and league title in each of his three seasons at the helm. He also won the Ukrainian Super Cup in 2017. Fonseca has extensive coaching experience in Portuguese football, having coached Pacos Ferreira, Braga, and Porto. As a player, according to a statement from AS Roma, he played as a central defender, making over 100 appearances in the Portuguese top flight. In 2005, immediately after retiring from football, he began his coaching career in his home country, where he won the Super Cup with Porto in 2013 and the Portuguese Cup with Braga in 2016. "I am very happy to have been appointed as the new coach of AS Roma and I would like to thank the entire club management for the opportunity they have given me. I am enthusiastic and motivated by the challenge that awaits us and I can't wait to move to Rome, meet our fans and start working. I believe that together we can create something special." These are the first words, released on the AS Roma website, of Paulo Fonseca, the new technical director of the Giallorossi club starting next season. West Ham are one step away from signing Pablo Fornals. According to Spanish press, the English club has reached an agreement with Villarreal for the midfielder, a transfer target of Napoli as well as Arsenal and Tottenham. The “Hammers” are ready to shell out 27 million pounds (around 30 million euros) for the 23-year-old who was already sought by Napoli in January.
