Castellammare. An investigation has been opened into the death of a 65-year-old from Torre del Greco after being admitted to the San Leonardo hospital in Castellammare di Stabia. The man, Michele M., is believed to have died of suspected septicemia. The 65-year-old died on Tuesday evening after twenty days in a coma. The family members filed a complaint with the Carabinieri of the Castellammare di Stabia station who, coordinated by the Torre Annunziata Prosecutor's Office, seized the body and medical records. The magistrates have opened a case against unknown persons for manslaughter. The first warnings could arrive today, as a necessary act. According to the family members' complaint, the man had arrived at the Stabia emergency room with breathing problems. From the first visits, the doctors had found an edema in the throat that was complicating his breathing. Suddenly the 65-year-old's condition worsened, so the doctors ordered his emergency transfer to the intensive care unit where he died three weeks later. According to the medical records, the cause of death was due to septicemia, an infection that appeared in the days following his hospitalization and that weakened Michele M. to the point of causing his death. An autopsy should be performed tomorrow on the man's body to try to understand if something went wrong during his hospitalization and whether or not everything was done to save him.
