A few hours after the popular protest in Pianura, which saw citizens take to the streets to say no to the transformation of the neighborhood into a mega-dump, the IX Municipality led by President Lorenzo Giannalavigna launched a singular form of protest that came to life a few minutes ago on the official page of the Municipality.
The parliament of Soccavo Pianura gave birth to the hashtag #respectforthesuburbs, accompanied by a significant image that portrays some moments of the protest that yesterday turned some streets of the Pianura neighborhood upside down. The Municipality points the finger at the municipal administration and at Asìa that are no longer able to guarantee the collection of waste with continuity, further penalizing the suburbs.
"While some areas of the city seem not to be affected by the ongoing waste emergency - explain the members of the Council of the ninth parliament - in Soccavo, Pianura, but also in Secondigliano, Scampia, San Pietro a Patierno, Barra or Ponticelli the citizens are struggling with mountains of waste that make the air unbreathable and increase the health and hygiene risk hour by hour. In recent years the Municipality of Naples has not been able to provide a concrete response to the waste problem, everything has been delegated to the Stir and the Acerra waste-to-energy plant. The latter - continues the IX Municipality - will soon go into scheduled maintenance and we will find ourselves facing a new emergency. The citizens of the suburbs are tired of being treated like second-class citizens. We demand the respect we are due. This is only the first form of protest – conclude the representatives of the Soccavo-Pianura Municipality – if Palazzo San Giacomo persists in not providing answers to the citizens then we will think about much more sensational protests».
