Naples. Residents of the Traiano neighborhood are exasperated because their garbage hasn't been collected for days. Walking around the neighborhood, you'll see the state of decay in which the streets and garbage bins are left, near which everything is abandoned. The worst situation is on Via Tertulliano and Via Romolo e Remo. Residents have reported the situation to both the Municipality and the police station, but collection hasn't taken place for 15 days, and the recent heat, which has rotted the garbage, makes the air unbreathable. Residents and street-front shopkeepers are forced to stay indoors. The garbage collectors, confronted by the residents themselves, claim that since there's an ongoing labor dispute with the company, they can't collect garbage from the streets, only from the bins. Residents are appealing to the mayor to resolve the situation. "If the garbage isn't collected from the streets within 48 hours," they say, "we'll put up barricades."
