"Mascagna Park, formerly known as the Via Ruoppolo Gardens, located in the hilly area of the Neapolitan capital, on the border between the Vomero and Arenella neighborhoods, one of the few green spaces available to residents, continues to be in a state of neglect." Gennaro Capodanno, president of the Comitato Valori Colliri, has once again addressed the park's condition.

"Several flowerbeds are reduced to dirt fields, barren, without a blade of grass and without any plants or flowers to embellish them," Capodanno emphasizes. "Some of the children's playground equipment, installed some time ago on the synthetic grass, including a swing, are broken or have been removed." "The new layout of the park," Capodanno recalls, "was finally completed after decades of waiting, during which part of it was used as a construction site for the hilly metro line. Then, finally, the landscaping work was completed, with the expansion and fencing of the green area, carried out some time ago by the Municipality with funding of over one and a half million euros. Recently, the park was closed for over eight months, amid lively protests from citizens, resulting in petitions and sit-ins, due to work to secure some trees, several of which were removed, without being replaced by new ones, as evidenced by the presence of numerous stumps."

"The park is very busy throughout the day, especially during these scorching days, especially with the elderly and mothers with children," Capodanno continues. "In November 2007, on the 70th anniversary of the birth of Sergio de Simone, the only Italian child among the 20 killed at the Bullenhuser Damm school, a rose garden was planted on one of the flowerbeds, which has also long since disappeared." Capodanno urges the municipal administration to ensure constant and adequate maintenance of the park, promptly completing all necessary repairs to restore it to full usability for its many visitors.
