“As a child, I never wanted to get out of bed on June 11 for this ceremony, then over the years a sense of community was built and I understood that being alone is the most dangerous thing there is”. Alessandra Clemente, councillor for youth policies of the Municipality of Naples, said this during the ceremony in Naples, in Piazza Medaglie d'Oro, to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the murder of her mother, Silvia Ruotolo, an innocent victim of the Camorra. “Today – said Clemente – dedicating so much effort to the memory of my mother means not leaving anyone alone in this city, it means committing to doing small and simple things like taking care of a public space, or the activities of the Silvia Ruotolo Foundation, thanks to which every year many young people redeem a life made of errors and mistakes through important things like work and the values of life and not of crime. Today, with our heads held high, we can say that we are better than those who killed our mother that day and we want to involve as many people in this city as possible in deciding which side to be on and to tell those who are on the wrong side to change and redeem themselves for themselves and their children”. The day of remembrance with Alessandra Clemente, her father and her brother was attended by the mayor of Naples Luigi de Magistris and the new police commissioner of Naples Alessandro Giuliano: “In Naples – said the latter – the energy and the persistence of memory shows that the city is ready to rally around its healthiest part”. In Piazza Medaglie d'Oro, where a wreath of flowers was laid in memory of Silvia Ruotolo, also Guido Ruotolo, journalist and brother of the woman killed in '97, and Don Luigi Ciotti, alongside the young people of the Libera garrison. Many schools have prepared works to remember Ruotolo after having studied her human story in depth, sharing it with the hashtag #giveavoice. Among the schools present were the Patroni Institute of Pollica (Sa), the Kennedy Institute of Secondigliano, the Bonito Cosenza middle school of Castellammare di Stabia, but also the stand of the publishing house “Becco Giallo”, which published the comic “Silvia Ruotolo. Tutto cio' che libera e tutto cio' che uniti”. On the stage in Piazza Medaglie d'Oro the celebrations with music and children will continue all day, until 18 pm when in the church of the Florentines in the nearby Piazza degli Artisti there will be a mass celebrated by Don Tonino Palmese, Don Luigi Ciotti and Don Lello.
