NNaples. Last night, State Police officers from the Ponticelli Police Station arrested Pasquale Salinas, 42, and Maurizio Benincasa, 49, both from Naples, and reported a 47-year-old man for tobacco smuggling. The officers, on patrol to prevent crime, observed two suspicious individuals, while traveling along Via Eugenio Montale, near a cellar near block 9/7. Upon seeing the officers, the two men attempted to evade a possible check; one of them fled, while Salinas was stopped and checked, finding numerous cartons of unmarked cigarettes inside the black bags. Along with other patrols who arrived to assist, the officers searched the previously noted cellar, where Benincasa was busy preparing TLEs for illegal sale in the area. In fact, the search found 669 packets of contraband cigarettes, weighing approximately 14 kg. The two men, already known for this crime, were arrested and taken to their homes under house arrest, at the disposal of the judicial authorities pending the summary hearing which will take place today. The third man was charged while at liberty.
