The open water swimming season is about to kick off for the seventeenth consecutive year in Castellabate, with national, regional and local competitions. This year too, the Punta Tresino association, in collaboration with the Sintesi SSD association, offers a packed program of swimming events. A brand new feature of the summer swimming season in the town of Benvenuti al Sud is the nighttime marine mile race, which will take place on July 13th (starting at 9:00 PM) in the body of water in front of the beach in the Lago district, in the heart of the Santa Maria di Castellabate Marine Protected Area. Furthermore, for the first time, the “Gran Fondo Italia” will arrive in Cilento, a multi-stage open water swimming circuit over long distances, equal to or greater than 15 km. The Castellabate stage will take place on July 7 (start at 7.00) and will touch the entire coast, from the bay of Ogliastro Marina to the beach of the Lago hamlet. The official debt with long distance swimming is scheduled for the last weekend of June, 29 and 30, with the FIN (Italian Swimming Federation) races over the distances of 1,8 km, 3 km and 5 km. The most anticipated is the Gran Prix Fondo, aimed at competitive swimmers, of 5 km, which will be held on Saturday 29 June (start at 9.00) and which will see the participation, as in the 3 km, also of Spanish athletes, coming from Valencia, and of a large group of swimmers coming from different areas of Italy. The competition field is, as always, set up between the body of water of the Grotta di San Marco di Castellabate, close to the port, and the beach of the Lago hamlet. On the afternoon of Saturday 29 June (start at 18.00) the National Grand Prix will take place over the distance of 1,8 km. The final stage will be on Sunday, June 30th (starting at 10:30 am), with the National Middle Distance Grand Prix over a distance of 3 km. The Blue Flag sea of Castellabate will return on July 7th with the Cilento stage of the fourth edition of the national "Gran Fondo di Nuoto" circuit. The swimming race, starting at 7.00:15 am, will cover the entire Marine Protected Area of Santa Maria di Castellabate for a total distance of XNUMX km. The start, in fact, will take place in the Ogliastro Marina Bay, and the finish will always be in the Lago district. The grand finale will be the weekend of July 13th and 14th with the UISP (Italian Union of Sports for All) National Open Water Swimming Championship. The races – over the distances of 200, 400 and 800 metres, as well as 1, 2 and 3 km – will be held on Saturday (July 13) and Sunday (July 14) starting at 8 in the morning. The exclusive and evocative “Miglio Marino” at night (starting at 21.00 pm) fits into this scenario. “It's a love story that has been going on for almost twenty years with open-water swimming,” the organizers explain, “thanks to a passion for this sport and a desire to help promote the beautiful area of Castellabate through sport. As every year, we try to introduce new things for all those who come to visit us, among other things this year we will also have swimmers from Spain. Certainly, the two absolute novelties concern the Sea Mile, which will be held at night, and then the 15 km national stage of the Gran Fondo Italia circuit, which will involve practically the entire marine protected area."
