As part of the Farnese Dialogues and the “Heritage and Innovation” cycle, Christian Masset, French Ambassador to Italy, will host a new meeting at Palazzo Farnese on Monday 17 June at 18.30:4 p.m.: Heritage and Technology, the rebirth of Pompeii. Heritage is one of the constituent elements of the identity of France and Italy. It also represents a major challenge for the two countries. France is the 1th country in terms of number of sites classified as UNESCO World Heritage and Italy is the 1st. They are also the 5st for France and the 3th for Italy of the most popular destinations for international tourists. As a result, both France and Italy have developed strong skills in the conservation, restoration, enhancement and mediation of heritage. How to face this common challenge will be discussed by leading figures from both countries: Hélène Dessales, archaeologist, professor at the Ecole Normale Supérieure, head of the ENS/Centre Jean Bérard project on the Villa of Diomedes, Massimo Osanna, archaeologist, general director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, professor at the University of Naples, Marco Fabbri, archaeologist, professor at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, with François Fouriaux, from the École française de Rome. The contribution of technology, especially digital technology, to the knowledge and valorization of heritage is now decisive. The application of XNUMXD reconstruction to cultural heritage, from single objects to the most important archaeological sites, requires bringing together multidisciplinary skills to collect data, compare them with archives, and return the results to scholars and the public. The speakers will explain this complex process starting from the example of Pompeii and the recent effort to revive this exceptional heritage. Several Italian-French meetings have been organized on the themes of the heritage common to both countries and on the latest technological, educational and social innovations related to heritage. The cycle “Heritage and Innovation” will also be developed through various initiatives in Florence, Genoa and Milan
