“The mainland is no longer enough for those who live illegally. From the illegal parking attendants who infest the streets of Naples, we have moved on to illegal moorers who take over the Neapolitan sea without any right. The phenomenon is constantly growing. According to data from the Campania Regional Nautical Association, there are approximately 2800 boats moored illegally in Naples. Those who rely on illegal moorers obviously do so to save money. We are talking about a cost reduction of approximately half. Beyond the unfair competition for authorized moorers, who act according to the rules, we must take into account the danger of such structures which, in many cases, are set up near beaches and cliffs”. This is what regional councilor Francesco Emilio Borrelli of the Greens stated, commenting on the article on the phenomenon published in “Il Mattino”. “An example is the report we received from a disabled citizen about a mooring set up in Riva Fiorita. The communication sent to us complains about the danger caused by the presence of motor boats in a body of water that is usually frequented by bathers on the small beach and the cliff. We have sent a report to the Port Authority regarding the presence of this mooring, asking to find out whether or not this structure has the authorizations”.
