Naples. A luxury robbery in Naples's high-end shopping district: bandits ransacked the windows of the Silvestri jewelry store on Via Cavallerizza. The attack occurred in broad daylight, at 10:20 a.m., while a customer was choosing a watch. The bandits, three of them armed with a gun, stole 14 Rolex watches, emptying the windows. With their faces covered by helmets, the robbers knew their way around and in just a few minutes took what they wanted and fled. Owner Luca Silvestri recounted the incident, and one of the robbers pointed a gun at him to prevent him from moving. The robbers then fled through the narrow streets of Piazza dei Martiri and Piazza San Pasquale. "Let's commit a robbery," said the first bandit, entering with his gun in hand and first subduing one of the jewelry store's employees. The customers at the counter fled, and the robbery was over in a matter of moments. The other two bandits entered immediately afterward, one carrying a large bag to hide the loot. They headed for the windows and emptied them. All the Rolex watches that had been on display moments earlier ended up in the bag. "Forty seconds later, the police arrived," said Luca Silvestri, who was held at gunpoint by the robbers to prevent him from raising the alarm and seeing the license plate number of the getaway vehicle.
The Silvestri jewelry store burglary is the fourth robbery by Rolex in 22 days; in the others, the bandits had arrived through the sewers, exploiting the maze of tunnels in the historic center of Naples.
