Naples Mayor Luigi de Magistris spoke Monday morning on "La Radiazza," answering questions from host Gianni Simioli and Green Party regional councilor Francesco Emilio Borrelli about street waste. "There's no emergency, everything's under control," de Magistris stated. "There are only some delays due to maintenance of the Metropolitan City's waste treatment facilities. The disruption will be resolved soon, but I urge residents to refrain from uncivilized behavior. Unfortunately, a minority of these items cause serious problems. One example is the waste being dumped outside of the containers." "The mayor's response," Borrelli and Simioli stated, "is what Neapolitans have been waiting for. Unfortunately, there are too many pockets of incivility that contribute to the unease surrounding waste. Now we're waiting for de Magistris's statements to be acted upon and for the streets to be cleared of piles of garbage. Meanwhile, we've had a record number of reports of illegal dumping on the Campania Green Party's Facebook page. We're compiling a dossier to present to Asia, the Municipal Police, and the judiciary to crack down on these criminals." During his speech, Mayor de Magistris, pressed by Councilor Borrelli, who has long been committed to the protection and promotion of the Diaz roundabout, also responded regarding the installation of showers at "Mappatella Beach": "They will be reinstalled shortly. The entire area," the mayor explained, "has undergone a thorough redevelopment, an even more significant effort than last year."
