Over 1.200 identified, 442 checked bags, 2 arrested, 9 investigated and 6 administrative sanctions issued in matters of railway safety: this is the result of the last weekend of intense checks culminating in the operation “safe stations”, which yesterday saw 98 Railway Police officers engaged in 13 railway stations in Campania. The activities were also supported by canine units from the local Police Headquarters in action at the Naples Central station. At Naples Central, the Railway Police patrols, present at the checkpoints, with latest-generation smartphones for real-time control of documents and metal detectors, stopped and checked PMG, a thirty-six-year-old Neapolitan with multiple criminal records, against whom there was an order for the execution of the personal precautionary measure of house arrest, which was carried out at the end of the ritual procedures.
Also at the Naples Central station, a Neapolitan criminal was arrested for aggravated theft who, taking advantage of a moment of distraction of a tourist, stopped to chat with her husband in a peripheral area of the railway station, took possession of her trolley. The immediate reporting of the incident to the Railway Police offices allowed the Specialty operators to locate and stop the person responsible, also thanks to the viewing of the images from the video surveillance system. GI born in 1973 was arrested and subjected to a direct trial: he was sentenced to 4 months in prison and a 200 euro fine.
During the operation Safe Stations, a thirty-one-year-old non-EU citizen was found in Naples Central Station who had failed to comply with an order from the Police Commissioner to leave the national territory. In addition to the criminal violation, the foreigner was also charged with an administrative offence for the possession of 0,40 grams of hashish, which were seized. Six other people were investigated for crimes ranging from aggravated theft; failure to comply with the FVO; violence or threats to PU and refusal to provide information about one's personal identity. Two illegal vendors caught bothering travellers were fined and given an order to leave Naples station.
